Easy, delicious, vegie-based meals

Looking for lunch ideas and want something more substantial than ‘salad’? Take a look at Hetty McKinnon’s wonderful recipe books. And she’s just published a new one.

Hetty McKinnon is the Chinese Australian author of Community, Neighbourhood, and now, Family.

A few years ago she ran a salad delivery service in Surry Hills in Sydney. Forget lettuce leaves and tomato wedges, she gave ‘salad’ a whole new look. Community: salad recipes from Arthur Street Kitchen is a compilation of her recipes from that time.

She and her husband then moved their family to New York for his work, and she wrote Neighbourhood: salads, sweets and stories from home and abroad based on the meals she made in their new environment.

Now, Family: new vegetable classics to comfort and nourish reflects her Chinese background.

Hetty’s books are about sharing, community, culture and family. And her recipes are healthy (mostly), filling and easy to make, with loads of flavour. A lot of them are suitable for just about any meal.

Community is a great place to start. Your library can get it in for you.
